Volunteers in Public Schools, Inc. (VIPS)

VIPS’ mission is to enhance the educational experience of the Hampden students by encouraging community involvement in the schools.  It currently coordinates some long-standing volunteer events such as the Read Aloud program for grades Pre-K though 6 and Career Day for the 7^th and 8^th grades.  VIPS also sponsors after-school programs at both schools that are staffed by generous and talented volunteers and provides volunteer support for classrooms and special activities at teacher and/or principal request.

The Board meets on the first Monday of each month at the Green Meadows School library from 7:30 to 8:30 PM.  If you are interested in serving on the Board and joining its efforts on behalf of the public schools, please contact one of the following members.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

After-school Programs:

We are looking for volunteers to participate in and lead these activities.  You commitment may be for one after-school session or up to six, depending on the nature of the program.  Group size and grade level would also be dependent upon the activity involved.

After school activity hours:

Green Meadows            Preschool – Third Grade            3:30 – 4:30 or 5:00 PM

 Thornton Burgess          Fourth Grade – Eighth Grade     2:45 – 3:35 PM

Read Aloud Program:

The Hampden Community Read Aloud Program is held on Thursday mornings at 10:00 am on the following dates:

November 21, 2002

February 13, 2003

April 17, 2003
