Pool Update

Jim was reviewing pool plans and quotes from Gary Swanson, Physical Engineer It is important to contain water in pool area to avoid run off into creek. If there is overflow from the rain it can be pumped into the field as long as it is 2 parts /million.  The water will be pumped through a super chlorinator. This will allow for a safe level and will not kill the grass. Gary felt we needed 4 pipes to recirculate the water. Secondly, a quote from Diamond Water Systems had not yet been received. Thirdly, Chris Campbell from F.C.Taplan suggested we do not need a filter for the pump (since the pool is considered a bathing beach) but it would keep the water cleaner. Chris checked with the DEP.  We would just have to backwash more to get the silt out. The pump is strong enough for the filter Chris felt only 2 pipes was necessary to recirculate the water.

Chris McDonald motioned not to have a filter and to hire F.C.Taplan to complete the pool work. All voted in agreement.

Dig Safe needs to be notified and the area marked. M. D’Amours will get the trench ready.

Field Usage

Jim checked when a Wilbraham vs. Wilbraham team plays at a town facility. The town is compensated  $36.00 per event.

Glennice checked with John Whalen from the E. Longmeadow Park and Rec.  to find out what other issues other towns have had to deal with. We need to put a policy in place. We have been consistent on facility usage since 1998. Why make exceptions now.

Chris asked if we have a policy manual, or just meeting minutes with the policy noted in them. He felt we should use this situation to create a policy. A committee should be formed possibly outside Park and Rec with outside ideas.

Tom felt we needed to redo our policy. The Peter Fatse situation may need to be allowed. What position does this put Park and Rec in? He would like clarification as to what power the selectmen have over monitoring spending, decision making etc. Jim will get this in writing from the selectmen. Who should be on the committee to formalize the policy?

Kathleen felt we needed to re-evaluate our policy with an effective date. The policy definitely needs to be worked on. Who chooses the people for the committee?

Jim suggested allowing people to attend the next meeting to help draw up a policy.

All were in favor to evaluate the policy. An ad is to be placed in the Reminder to put a committee together.

Glennice made a motion to uphold the policy that non Park and Rec or RAH sponsored teams be allowed to practice but not to hold games at town facilities. Peter Fatse can rent fields for

practice only but may not hold games. Kathleen seconded the motion. It was a unanimous vote with all in favor.

Misc.

Tom asked why we do not have field facilities. Sani Cans are too expensive. Other towns do not have facilities either.

May 23, 2002, Thursday at 7:00PM

Meeting adjourned at 8:44 P.M.

Respectfully submitted:

Sue Gorman, Clerk
