MINUTES

April 12, 2003

Roll Call:

The meeting was called to order at 11:00 am.  Board of Selectmen James D. Smith, and Duane Mosier were in attendance. Mark Barba was out of town

 

1.               Override

The Board discussed the ballot questions and reconfirmed the April 9 vote to hold a special election for a 2-½ override on May 17, 2003 as amended.  A letter was forwarded to the Town Clerk apprising her of the special election and ballot questions.  The following are the proposed ballot questions:

 

Shall the Town of Hampden be allowed to assess an additional $353,569 in real estate and personal property taxes for the purpose of operating the Municipal Government and Public Schools for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2003?

Shall the Town of Hampden be allowed to exempt from the provisions of proposition two and one-half, so-called, the amounts required to pay for the bond to be issued in order to purchase a dump truck for the highway department?

            Shall the Town of Hampden be allowed to exempt from the provisions of proposition two   and one-half, so-called, the amounts required to pay for the bond to be issued in order to       purchase real estate at 613 Main Street, Hampden, MA?

 

2.               Special Town Meeting

The Board re-approved the Special Town Meeting warrant for 4/28/03.  Both Town Council and Bond Council reviewed the articles on 4/11/03.  The warrant will be given to the constable on 4/14/03 for posting.

 

3.               613 Main Street

The Board discussed the warrant article and ballot question for this property.  Duane Mosier had met with the owner to discuss the property and purchase price on 4/11/03. 

Duane Mosier moved, seconded by James Smith to adjourn the meeting.  The motion was adopted unanimously (2-0).  The meeting adjourned at 11:30 am.
